AWARD of Distinguished Conduct Medal to Sergeant Wilfred George DANIELS Canadian Infantry Corps |
![]() |
For conspicuous gallantry on April 9th 1918 capturing an enemy machine gun at FAMPOUX.
At about 7:30 am Sgt. Daniels, on duty in our Front Line, observed a party of Germans advancing 50 yards from our outpost with a Light Machine Gun. They immediately took cover in shell-holes. Displaying fine initiative and with total disregard for his personal danger, Sgt. Daniels grasped the situation and rushed the Germans, whom he took by surprise, engaging them single-handed with Bombs. They made off after an exchange of bombs, leaving the M.G. complete in his hands, which he returned to our lines.
This party was evidently working in conjunction with an enemy raiding party operation on the Battalion on our left, and it is undoubtedly due to the prompt and gallant action of Sgt. Daniels, that a raid on our front was frustrated. He was also awarded the Military Medal in December 1917.
