A viewer of this website has three War Medals that she thought were her Grandfathers but upon closer inspection has found that they belong to someone else. She wants to find the family of the soldier they rightly belong to.
Two medals come with a bar and ribbons. The first is on a blue and red ribbon. on the front there is a picture of Queen Victoria. On the back it says Northwest 1885 Canada. The engraving says PT. HENRY DOUGLAS FREEMANTLE 12th BATT. YORK RANGERS.
The second is on a blue, white and yellow ribbon. On the front is a picture of King George. On the back is a picture of a horse and rider, with the years 1914 and 1918 printed on it. On the side engraved is 681025 A.SJT.H.D.FREEMANTLE. 170-CAN.TNF.
The third medal is an iron cross. On one side it says 1914 W HARTLEPOOLE SCARBOROUGH WHITBY 1914 with a W under the date. On the other side it says RHEIMS LOUVAIN AMiENS1914 and in the centre is a W with a cross above it.
The medals mean a lot to the viewer so if no known relative can be found she will treasure them the rest of her life as she does with all of her dad's medals.
Any help or advise anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
