Private Leslie Godfrey "Blackie" BLACKBURN

A viewer of the website would love to hear from any Veterans who knew or served with his Dad.

Private Leslie Godfrey Blackburn a.k.a. "Blackie", Service Number B/42050, was with the Canadian Army, Perth Regiment, 11 Infantry Bde, R.C.I.C. He initially joined the Joined 2nd/10th Dragoons, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and was later posted to the Perth Regiment before going overseas.

He was a Bren Gunner in the Italian Campaign, but after contracting Malaria, was out of the line for a while, later serving as a cook, and a stretcher-bearer. He participated in the relief of the starving Dutch Population in 1945, returning to Canada in 1946.

Pte. Blackburn was a 57 year life member of Branch 479 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a Perth Regiment Veteran's Association Life Member (Fighting Perths). He passed away in 2004.
